Do Generic ADHD Medications Work?

adhd medicationsI’ve been suspicious of the effectiveness of generic ADHD medications for a few years now.

That’s because some of my favorite ADHD doctors have told me that generic drugs don’t treat ADHD symptoms as well as non-generic medications.

Also, some of my clients seem to have less successful results when they use a generic version of Ritalin or Adderall. Is there a connection to the findings that some generic drugs produced overseas are substandard? I don’t know for sure, but it certainly does make me wonder.

A new report by Bloomberg News provides data to support my concerns that generic ADHD medications aren’t all they’re cracked up to be and that the FDA is falling down on their job of making sure our medications are safe and effective.

Apparently, some generic drug manufacturers in India, left on the honor system of quality control, are  ignoring FDA rules and regulations and fudging data if drug results aren’t up to standards.

Here’s a link to an easy to understand article that explains the Bloomberg findings. It pertains to the pitfalls of ALL generic medications. Not just those generic medications that treat ADHD.

Frankly, I’m angry. It is absolutely ridiculous that our government isn’t stopping these shenanigans and funding the FDA enough to stop this. That we are trusting the safety of what we put in our bodies and brains to the substandard and unethical practices of some overseas companies.

I’m also furious that insurance companies make it very difficult for us to get safe and effective medications. Often we don’t even get a choice whether or not we want generic or not.

Going on a rant isn’t enough. The FDA assures us they want to know about problems and treatment failures with medications.
