Adult ADHD / ADD Coaching Strategies

What ADHD Awareness Really Means

It’s ADHD Awareness Week. Frankly, I find calling something ADHD Awareness rather amusing. One thing adults with Attention Deficit lack is awareness.

We go flitting through life, chasing the next shiny thing capable of stimulating our unstimulated brains leaving a trail of clutter and unfinished and/or unstarted projects behind us.

We’re unaware of what embarrassing words we’ll blurt out until it’s too late. We’re unaware our socks don’t match, we left that crucial report at home or there is no food in the house because we forgot to go to the market.

We get so caught up in the heartbreak and struggles, we’re unaware of our gifts and strengths. Seems the only things we can consistently focus on are our weaknesses.

We’re unaware of how bright we are because we spent the first 18 years of our lives failing to sit still in a classroom or remembering what we read yesterday…if we remembered to actually read what we were supposed to read yesterday.

We’re unaware the world needs people like us. People brimming with ideas, who can light up a room or a party. People with energy and creativity and a unique, genuine approach to life.

We’re unaware we don’t have to struggle so hard. That when properly treated ADHD loses much of its power over our lives. That as adults with ADD or ADHD we can paint a new picture of who we are and what we contribute to the world.

So please, become aware of your ADHD. Get the help and treatment you need. The world needs people like you.
