Have you ever noticed how the books you read, the music you listen to and the TV
shows you watch affect your mood?
Filling your brain with negative ideas makes you sad and afraid. When you are sad
and afraid you lose energy and your performance suffers.
Likewise, filling your brain with pleasant thoughts and inspiring ideas can boost
your mood and energize you.
Since the ADHD brain needs all the help it can get to function well, you need to
notice these things.
Listen to joyful music.
Watch inspiring TV shows.
Read enlightening, pleasant books.
There's a lot of scary, negative stuff out there. There's lots of great stuff, too.
Carefully choose what you put in your brain.
The Last Word
I relearned this valuable lesson recently after reading some popular novels,
mostly about unhappy people in dysfunctional families.
To make it worse, I started watching junky TV programs. You know, the shows
where people are mean and insulting to each other.
Before I knew it, I was moping around feeling unusually blue and lethargic.
Finally, I realized my brain was suffering from all the garbage I was pouring in it.
I cleaned up my act and quickly bounced back to my normal, cheery self.
