A Simple ADHD Organizing Trick

ADHD Organizing TrickHere’s a brilliantly simple ADHD organizing trick one of my delightful ADD Coaching clients told me about last month. She stumbled across it while searching the Internet.

This organizing trick works great when you’re faced with a major area of clutter such as your desk, a table, bed, floor or counter. Any place where you’re so totally overwhelmed by the piles of paper, clothes or other stuff you just don’t know where to start.

Oh Sheet. Let’s Get Organized with ADHD.

Here’s how it works…

  1. Drape a sheet or blanket over MOST of the area you are organizing. All you want showing is a small chunk of the clutter.
  2. Next, clear that bit of visible clutter. (You’ll find step by step instructions on how to clear clutter in my Organized for Life program.)
  3. Once you’ve organized the first bit, slide the sheet over to expose another chunk of the clutter, tackling it as you did in Step 2 above.
  4. Keep moving the sheet, clearing and organizing as you go.

Now, isn’t that simple! Just the way we like getting organized to be.

Especially if you find wrestling disorganization a daily battle like it is with so many people with Attention Deficit.

You just gotta love little tricks like this. I know I do.

Why Is This Such a Stellar ADHD Organizing Tip?

Well, it makes getting organized a game, which makes it easier for stimulation-seeking brains like ours to swallow.

Also a huge part of ADD’s challenge with disorganization is overwhelm. By limiting what you can see and tackling the mess a bit at a time, you’ll be more likely to bust through the overwhelm and make progress.

We have a saying where I am from and the word is “DOPE”. When I read this that is all I could say.

DOPE is a good thing. It means fresh, all that jazz, Great!, wonderful. This makes so much sense to me. I do get so excited about organizing and tackling clutter. But, then when I see it I get overwhelmed and I fail to get started let alone finish anything. If you made your downloable book paper amazon would have some serious competition ahead for them.

Great idea! Just don’t drape all of the clutter with the sheet(s) or your house will start to look like everything is being dust clothed (mine) to close up for the winter when you’re not going anywhere! ;-/
